Modernist cast polyester resin sculpture, Bust on Book Stack, attributed to Stella Waitzkin (New York, 1920-2003), apparently unsigned, approx 5.5"h, 7"w, 5.25"d, 8lbs **Note: Stella Waitzkin (New York, 1920-2003) was a prominent sculptor, painter, performance artist, and activist throughout the 1950s-1970s. After studying under Abstract Expressionist greats Willem de Kooning (Dutch/ American, 1904-1997) and Hans Hoffmann (German/ American, 1880-1966), Stella set up her studio at the famous Chelsea Hotel in New York City. Here she began making cast resin book sculptures, filling entire walls with wordless books and busts that eventually became some of her most well-known works. Waitzkin is represented at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in "Details of a Lost Library," c.1972-1993, a wall-mounted installation comprised of several shelves of resin book sculptures.**
