Ames U.S. Model 1833 Artillery Sword, the 19.5" spearpoint blade with three fullers at each side marked at the ricasso with an "eagle over N.P Ames, Springfield,", the opposite ricasso marked "United States , 1839, WS" (U.S. sub-inspector William Smith Evans, 1828-1841), the bulbous brass cross guard marked at the blade side "WS", "M.P.L. within a rectangle (sub-inspector Major William P. Lomax 1837-1843), and "Ord." (U.S. Army Ordnance Department), marked at the handle side of the cross guard "MS", a three pin brass scale handle with the American eagle and Federal shield at both sides of the pommel, sword only overall approx. 25.5"l, housed in the original leather scabbard with brass throat and frog stud, marked at the lower brass drag "MS", blade is bright silver tone with very light scratches, no edge nicks, likely very little use, sword and scabbard overall approx. 26.25"l, 2.80lbs *Note: The "M" in "MS" was likely stamped upside down at the Ames manufactory.
