Impressive German silvered metal presentation cup/ pokal, 19th c., an electrotype after the Augsburg pokal executed in 1753 by Philipp Jakob Drentwett VI for the House of Toerring-Jettenbach of Bavaria, having foliated cover with open cartouche, the vasiform body profusely decorated in high relief with narrative scenes depicting three mounted noblemen with engraved titles “Wesso.,” “U. Tarringia,” and “Thassilo Rex,” reverse depicting an architectural abbey facade abutting three prophetic springs, with an equestrian hunt scene and figures gathered in celebration beside winged angels ascending a ladder toward heaven, with Saints Peter and Paul awaiting within celestial clouds, a pair of draped putti forming the stem and ending on a scalloped foot, bearing an engraved Latin inscription commemorating events associated with the founding traditions of Wessobrunn Abbey, dated 23 September 1853, the rim retaining partially effaced hallmarks and trefoil maker’s mark replicated from the original model, interior liner possibly later, approx 23.25"h, 8"w, 8"d, 5318 grams (inclusive of all materials) **Note: Produced during the historicist revival, this electrotyp illustrates the legendary founding of Wessobrunn Abbey by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria in 753. The engraved date of 1853 likely references the 1100th anniversary traditions associated with Wessobrunn Abbey.**
