This lot was examined via photograph by a highly regarded specialist in Native American and ethnographic art.** **Note: Please consult the condition section for limited observations made by our staff during a visual examination of the lot.** 8.23.26- In my opinion regarding LOT : I am not an expert on prehistoric pottery, its condition, conservation or restoration, I have taken numerous images for your reference, overall the bowl appears intact, the rim is inherently irregular in contour and thickness, with typical minute chips, nicks and areas of roughness, the body exhibits inherent surface irregularities including pitting, divots/nicks, fine surface lines and crazing, along with spotting and darkening, possibly from firing, the painted decoration is varied in density and tone with rubs, fading, and wear, particularly to the interior, with additional variation and wear to the exterior, a UV examination does not reveal broad or strongly fluorescing areas suggestive of extensive restoration, however, I am not sure, prior conservation, or restoration cannot be definitively excluded by my visual and UV examination alone, please refer to high-resolution images for your review Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog.
